College is expensive.  I know that even for me when it is all said and done I will have close to twenty thousand dollars of student loans from the semester of tuition and room and board and even this is cheap when compared to other christian, private schools.  So why do millions and millions of people brave the student loans and years of debt to go to college?

One of the reasons that people attend college is that the admissions offices strive to market and sell the services of their school to shopping students.   It can be difficult to sell intelligible items such as ideas, education etc.  but these people tirelessly work to convey the right values, courses, and faculty to the families would consider sending their children.  This is an empathizing like no other- convincing families to send their children to a school for four of their most important years of life.

It is selling an investment- the forgoing of hundreds of thousands of dollars and 4 years of employment for an education worthwhile in their future.  The empathizing and attunement that admissions counselors need to posses in order to screen unfortunate students and accept people that further their institution.  This is truly one of the most important sales jobs in the modern world.
