While talking about sales experience, many women in the class attested to the experience of selling Girl Scout cookies. I found this interesting and decided to look a little bit into this trend. What I found was extremely exciting for the avid ‘cookiest’.

Through the generations we have seen the innovations of the Girl Scouts of America in everything from cookie flavors, to patch colors. These past 2 years, the Girl Scouts are stepping it up by claiming their spot in the world of eCommerce. According to entrepreneur.com (link at the bottom of this blog) The Girl Scouts have started to sell their products online and through their mobile app! This minimizes the need for door to door sales in some situations but in others it give the ability for young girl scouts to optimize their selling process by tracking progress, setting goals, etc… As it stated in the article from entrepreneur.com, now men and women who do not have the resources of normal distribution (girls taking part in girl scouts and moms passing their orders around) can still order cookie and that has brought in more revenue for the organization as a whole.

Digital Cookie 2.0 (the app in which girl scouts can sell cookies) has changed the game for not only consumers, and the organization as a whole, but it is teaching young entrepreneurs the importance of eCommerce and how to harness that to perfect better selling techniques. The Girl Scouts of America are extremely optimistic and I predict that they will continue to innovate and change the world of entrepreneurship through something as small as cookie sales.

AND THAT CLASS, is how the cookie crumbles.

  1. It’s really cool to see kids get involved in the entrepreneurial world so early. I think this kind of involvement will help further change the way business is done in the future. Now excuse me as i go download the Digital Cookie 2.0 app.

  2. The article you found is really interesting! I think with all the growing technology available to us these days, it is only natural for the Girl Scouts to take advantage of being able to sell online now and I am glad to hear that is actually boosting their revenue as a whole. I think it is also a safer solution and probably much easier for them to set up their sales through a mobile app. Thanks for sharing!
