What makes a great salesperson – Is it attitude? Determination? Focus? All of the above?

All of these traits certainly play a large role into determining the effectiveness that a salesperson may have, yet I think there is one key component that goes a long way in separating good from great. This component that I’m referring to is that of an entrepreneurial spirit. I think that if anyone dedicates themselves to sales they can excel, but I feel like the people who have a natural passion for business and startups would certainly be drawn to sales.

A person who is excited about making new ideas a reality and ultimately trying to create progress is someone who would make an excellent salesperson. I think drive is the single most important characteristic of a successful businessperson, and people with an entrepreneurial spirit typically exemplify that trait. As previously mentioned, a great salesperson can come from any background and they might not want to own a business or be entrepreneurial for example. I just believe that people who do have a drive to pursue entrepreneurial endeavors need to devote time and energy into learning what sales is all about. Learning the ins and outs of sales would pay massive dividends to anyone who desires to run their own business.

  1. I agree completely with you. A salesperson with an entrepreneurial spirit will be successful due to the passion that they have for the customer. An entrepreneur must be determined to attract potential customers and satisfy current customers through personal selling and product knowledge. Good post!

  2. I also agree. I think that a host of many factors can prove to be effective when selling but sure some factors are more important than others. If you have a natural love for what you’re selling and you have desire to sell then the possibility is endless. If you go out and try to sell something you don’t care about, you really aren’t going to try too hard.
