Google has chosen the city for it’s first physical location and it has been revealed that the location is London, England.  The cutting edge shop will be located at Tottenham Court Road in Camden, in an area with several other electronics and telecoms stores.

Google customers who have for so long interacted with the web giant online can now can visit the Google Shop to buy any of the products offered by the company, including smartphones, Chromebooks and pother technological gadgets. According to the website,  “The store also offers visitors a chance to explore various tools and apps, such as an interactive and immersive Google Earth screen that lets the user virtually fly over any location in the world. There is also a Doodle Wall where visitors can create new, temporary variations on the brand’s famous logo. Finally, visitors can watch YouTube videos or Google Play Films in a dedicated viewing area.”

While the I’m sure the store layout will be cutting edge and extremely entertaining, the most interesting aspect of this recent development will be the transition of salespeople.  Google has often operated successfully under the moniker of a convenient and easy technology company.  A physical store location will require a more hands on salesy approach to moving google themed product.   They would do well to model off of applecare and geek squad for tips and pointers on customer service.

  1. I think this is very smart on Google’s part. They have dominated an industry, the best way to lose that lead is to become lazy. This is a great differentiator to be the only search engine with salespeople you can talk to. Also, why not? When you have that much money and it will create buzz on the internet, you can do fun things!

  2. This is pretty sweet. I’m curious to see how it does because it seems like it’s an awesome idea, but then again Google has never done anything physical. So, it is a big change for them and it’s definitely a different way to operate.

  3. Interesting post! It will be very interesting to see how this store for Google does in terms of revenue. I wonder if it is more of a store for show or if they are really testing the market to see if this could become a new aspect for Google. Thanks for sharing.

  4. There’s probably some sort of file-saving technology in the Doodle Wall to save people’s ideas. They’re going to be getting free ideation directly from their consumers. It’s brilliant.
