There are many articles you can Google about sales that will provide you with various tips, tricks, and scrips. Countless “sales gurus” will write in detail about these various topics. One guru, Gary Vaynerchuk, wrote an article called, “How to Sell” that provides several good points to improve sales tactics for those who want to learn.

One of the topics he mentions in his article has the title, “Sales is about Attention”. This section of the article explains that the first thing you have to do to sell a product doesn’t even start with the sale. Gary V says that you have to be attentive to where the consumer actually is. If you’re looking to sell a new trendy product, perhaps you should know what social media platform your target audience hangs out in. No point in selling to someone who isn’t your target market. So, be very attentive to where your consumer hangs out, physically or digitally before you start trying to make sales.

Another topic he mentions in his article is “Sales is about Relationships and Research”. In this section, Gary V asserts that “it comes down to putting in the work, providing value, building relationships and doing the research.” What he means by this is, the sales process begins with building a relationship and doing research on the customer to be informed about what value you or your product can provide the potential buyer. This is something Professor Sweet talks about extensively in class and it is dead right. Have a relationship with your customer, know about your customer, and know how you can provide them value. These things will help you lock down a sale.

The article continues on to describe several other tips, tricks, and mindsets that help aid in the sales process. Although there are countless sales gurus out there online, Gary Vaynerchuk is widely recognized as a thought leader in business and specifically sales as well.

  1. Sales is all about the relationship. You absolutely want to understand where your customers are, and the way that they feel. Building a relationship with them as well will also help as they are more likely to suggest you to others and buy from you again when the time comes.

  2. This is a great post. I also have heard of Gary and love what he says. His energy for what he speaks about and how he became rich are amazing. He grinded until he made it and it is the mentality that most of us need to have.
