So with the startup, my partner and I were both looking at making our own website by ourselves, and we hit a couple snags along the way, so we decided we’d ask someone who designs websites to see what it would cost, and if it was even a good idea to have someone else do it. So when we met with them, it started out very similarly to the logo process, and continued with what we wanted the website to be able to do and look like, which we were more prepared to answer these questions now. Then came the talk of price, and they started out by saying that what we wanted she would normally charge $1,200 for, but for us she would do $600, and was willing to negotiate an even lower price. This sent up red flags for both my partner and I, as no one willingly gives up a 50% discount before even hearing what the customers budget is, unless you’re trying to hit them with a sticker shock tactic. By doing that though she lost our interest, and we decided we would rather do it ourselves instead of pay that price.
