I start with with PNC’s Finance and Accounting Development Program at the end of June, and in preparation, each analyst is to put together a little bio that the company will have under your profile. In this program, you rotate through different departments and at the end of one year, you interview for the open positions of your choice in the finance/accounting departments. And your bio is a part of your “portfolio” of information. All of the analysts in the program interview at once, and while you are guaranteed placement, you are not guaranteed your top choice.

So this bio, where you put your professional interests, education, general qualifications, outside of work interests, and a picture of your choice, carries some weight with it. I want whatever I put together to show me dream department that I am qualified but also personable. So making choices on what to say and which picture to choose is important. This goes along with how I generally want to sell myself, which is more important in the “real” world than in the college world. I never realized how vital selling myself would be as I enter my first real job, but I haven’t even started work but I am already selling myself.

  1. I can see how specializing your bio can be an effective tool for selling yourself to customers as well as amongst fellow workers! It is similar to selling yourself on social media! Great work.

  2. I definitely agree- sales is all around us! The fact that it is so present in our daily lives, and ever changing makes it an exciting field to get into.
