When it comes to being a good salesperson, I believe that one of the best things we can do is “believe in our product.”

Demonstrating belief in the product or service that you sell shows confidence and transparency to the buyer. It means that the seller will persevere through failure to make things right. One man that has found a tremendous amount of success due to hard work and belief in his products is Elon Musk.

Elon talks about making space flight accessible to everyone. He wants to use his hard work and brilliance to serve his idea and the people around him. He “put his blood, sweat, and tears” into his work, and overcame failure multiple times before he saw any success. For Space X, the first 3 launches failed, and they barely had enough to do the 4th launch. Elon could not find a good engineer that wanted to join, so he took this massive responsibility on himself… because he loved and believed in his product. Elon said, “Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up.” He says that when you believe in a product enough, you can do it in spite of your fears. Ultimately, belief in his product and vision for his product is one of the things that has been Elon so successful despite all of the people who told him he would never make it.

  1. I agree that believing in your product is one of the most convincing things you can do when trying to sell. Personally, I do not think I would ever try to sell a product I don’t believe in – because I personally wouldn’t be convinced by anyone trying to do the same, I would never do it myself. Even though I don’t love him, I’ve always respected how much Elon Musk believes in himself and what he creates.

  2. Huge respect for this dude, but he gave his son a weird name for sure. Hopefully we are familiar with the phrase “Failure is the mother of success”. Elon’s rocket failure has out numbers his success which means that there are plenty of “mothers” to nurture the success he is about to have. I mean, who would have thought about cheap reusable rocket and commercial space travel would be possible? Very few. And who had the guts to the pioneer? Only Elon.

  3. Believing in your product and being transparent with people is the most important thing. I’m glad that Elon never gave up and did not listen to the critics who stated that he would fail. Persistence is so important when it comes to this, nobody will believe it til they see it.
