For my second blog post I looked at an article talking about H&M their black Friday disappointment and why it happened. The quarter was a percentage lower than what was expected for the company, leaving investors disappointed. Since the clothing industry is such a competitive market H&M now has put a lot of money into their marketing and trying to bring in new and trendy fashion, this is all to regain market share. H&M usually focuses on lower-cost fashion, but now because of business they are going to offer prices at various different prices and bring their manufacturing closer to home. A lot of people have a strong distaste for H&M since the prices are so low correlating to people believing that their clothes are made cheaply; which they usually are. I have always loved shopping at H&M since they are cheap, and fashion is now quickly in style then just as quickly out of style so why spend a ton of money on clothes. However, I believe that online shopping has really taken over stores like H&M and Forever 21 because Shein is so cheap and a lot more convenient for people rather than getting up and going to the store, Shein also tends to be less expensive. I think it is a good idea for H&M to have clothes that are a bit more expensive and higher quality because of Shein. I think it is smart to recognize the competition and how the game is changing even though they did not reference Shein specifically in the article, it is the truth and something they always need to be watching. Overall, the company has realized to stay in the game there are a lot of changes that they need to make. Chief Executive Daniel Erver thinks that these changes are for the best and that the company is moving in the right direction.
H&M Sales Disappoint on Black Friday Timing – WSJ
As a 21-year-old, I am very aware with the troubles that H&M have been experiencing, because there are many online stores like Shein offering incredibly low prices on very comparable products. I think for H&M to be able to compete they must offer higher-quality clothes and products that can be distinctively different from the other fast fashion online retailers. I can also see a ban on the processes that sites like Shein use, especially when it comes to child labor, as that is the only possible way they can keep prices so cheap.
