When we think of a company, either large or small, we picture sections of departments that all do different things to make that business run. This is true. There hast to be people that go and perform the actions that are for sale. there have to be people that are there to record all of the transactions that take place. There even has to be a department where people can clean the office space. So, now that we have established that in a company there are several different departments and job differentiations, how are they all connected? Some people would look at this and think, a CEO has nothing to do with the Janitor, when in fact the most important thing to that business is what they have in common. Sales. What? A janitor does not sell anything! Wrong, everyone that works for that company is in sales. You have a sales department where there is a group of people who are dedicated to the action of sales, but that is a certain type of sales. Being an example of the company is attached to each employee, and what they say might cause or sway sales. Each person who sheds their company in a good light is often to make others see it in a good light and possibly lead to an actual sale. If they speak badly about the company, it would cause people not to bring their business there. Face value sales, this is what every employee of a business is in. From the CEO to the Janitor, if you do not have positive face value sales, you will not have a successful business.

  1. I think people often over look employees like Janitors and the value they bring to a company. I also think people over look how important face value sales are to a business. Great post had a lot of great information.

After attending one of the food forums here at school, it was interesting to hear from upper-level management about the importance of how each person who works for the food service is a representative of the the company, and it affects the overall perception of their “brand”. In many ways, the lower level staff are the unsung sales force of Bon Appetit’s contract extension with GCC.
