As we have talked about in class almost everyone sells in some way, and today there are more sales jobs than just the traditional sales positions. An example of this is my dad, he graduated from Grove City College in 1996 as an early computer science major. He started working for the Navy right out of college but after a few years, he switched to a different company before returning to work with the Navy again, still on the computer side of things. Having to sell himself to these jobs showing the work he has done and what he is capable of doing. Growing up I didn’t know much about his job because he couldn’t talk about it due to security reasons. He would even hide his computer screen, joking that it was in case we were working for the Russians. Even now I know very little about what my dad does except that he owns his own company called EWAiken INC. His company contracts with IBM and the Navy. This is where sales come into play- my dad has to sell himself and his company to these organizations. They trust him, which is why they continue to hire him for their projects. Through these contracts, he has expanded his business and gained more opportunities, such as working for the PA turnpike and other government projects. Sales also play a key role in growing his company. Recently my dad hired his best friend Rob another Grove City College graduate to help him with this. Rob focuses on securing contracts with the government and other agencies to further expand my dad’s company and strengthen tech relationships. In a few years, my dad hopes to sell his company, which he will need to include sales into. This shows that the field of computer science also can and will include sales.

Your dad sounds like such an amazing and hard-working man! It is wild to see just how far work ethic can get you and very inspirational. Selling is a huge part of life no matter what field you are in, and it has been so interesting learning just how prevalent selling is in everyone’s day to day life.
