I have had some unique experiences with e-commerce through my years at GCC. What I have learned as a soon to be graduated entrepreneurship major,  is that it is VITAL for businesses to be aware and understand the implications of e-commerce. As an ambitious entrepreneur who is aspiring to start a business, e-commerce being popular is EXTREMELY exciting.

The biggest benefit of e-commerce to an entrepreneur is the barrier to entry being much smaller. For under $100 I can create an e-commerce website, and if I properly market my product can be selling directly to users that day. In the past businesses would rely on getting into retailers, door to door selling, cold calling. You get the picture, the list goes on. Online sales greatly reduces expenses, which is HUGE for a startup company.

For someone that has never tried e-commerce firsthand before it can seem rather intimidating, but it is actually far simpler than you may think. The only way to find out is to try it for yourself.

  1. E-commerce opens up so many possibilities and the WORLD to you. The world is your market and one that is accessible. It provides a great start for many people who don’t have a lot to work with or just want to do something small-time. Interesting blog.

  2. Great blog post here. The internet has drastically changed the playing field in the sale industry. In-store retail businesses including JCPenny’s, Sears, and Macy’s will all eventually go out of business due to Amazon and other e-commerce type companies. Therefore individuals with experience in tech sales and other forms of software sales will be valued in the future sales industry for their knowledge and application of online sales.

  3. Another great part about e-commerce is it broadens your market. Owning a small business store in a store, you are basically limited to the local citizens as your target market. Moving online allows small businesses to be open for national or even international markets. E-commerce will continue to grow as more people learn how to utilize it for big and small businesses.

  4. I think e-commerce has also benefitted other sectors like STEM. It’s easier than ever to get in contact with a biologist, engineer, or software developer that can help you create a product to sell online. E-commerce gives scientists more opportunities to use their knowledge to create useful products that can be reached nationally or internationally.
