Over break, I was tasked with completing 3 interviews for one of my classes. the first two went well and I had some pretty good conversations with them about their careers and just getting to know them as people. my final interview was with a man who is very well-known radio/tv personality in my state, Charlie Langton.

Charlie’s persona on television is this charismatic, funny, and energic guy who has had the same haircut since he started his career. I think his character would fit the perfect example of a salesman, he’s loud and loves to talk to people. However, when I had the chance to meet up with Charlie, he was the EXACT same guy I would hear on the radio.

while I was interviewing him, I kept in mind all of the tips from our sales class. I wasn’t selling anything; I gave him a call and a text explain that I was interested in his career and needed to do it for school. Of course, I let him do all of the talking and responded with head nods and smiles. I could tell he was also interested in getting to know me and asked me questions after I stop recording our interview. I had expressed that I has gained a new hobby of doing a radio show that I was doing at the time and wanted to branch out and start my own podcast of some sort.

He lit up with some excitement and took me on a tour of the studio and I got to meet some really cool people. I should highlight that my dad has known Charlie since the 90’s and had worked with the director the radio station. Every conversation started with Charlie mentioning I was Matt Allen’s daughter, and everyone constantly made remarks on how similar we were.

I did get to introduce myself to the director and explain why I was there. unfortunately, I didn’t get the opportunity to ask about internships and if they even had any. It was a pretty busy place with many voices and reports going on. I had an overall great experience with Charlie and hope to get to talk again soon.

  1. That’s so cool! I think it’s awesome when something comes from a meeting that you totally didn’t expect but presented a perfect opportunity for a conversation or question that can change things so much. I feel like it relates to what Evan Addams had said about scattering seeds and waiting to see if any of them take root. Just from an informational interview with Charlie Langton, you may now have an opportunity to inquire about internships, which is pretty awesome. Great post!

  2. This is really cool! It is so important to listen to let Mr. Langton do the talking. You were asking questions and getting to know him as a person and what he does for his job. Great job!
