About a year ago, I was searching for colleges like every other high school senior. Except I was very behind and almost every college had closed their last round of applications. My dad and I made the trip down here to Grove to check out the campus and meet with an admissions counselor. The tour was gloomy and cold, but I enjoyed seeing the campus itself.

I checked my schedule for what’s to come next after we had lunch in hicks. An interview with Professor Sweet was coming up within the next 10 minutes to learn more about the entrepreneurship program they had here. I didn’t know what to expect, was he going to be an intimating old man who was very cold? Cold, no. However, he did live up to his name.

I’ll be honest, but I was very opposed to going grove at first since it was out of state, and it was a smaller environment that reminded me of high school. Professor Sweet and I spoke for about an hour or so. He asked me questions about why I was here and what was my desired major. It didn’t feel like an interrogation; it was very smooth, and I felt pretty comfortable. He asked me questions about my character which brought out my interests like studying abroad. He introduced me to an abroad study in Bolivia that operates as a non-profit and a for profit.

The studying aboard didn’t sell me on Grove. It was how easy it was to talk to the faculty, the students, and the overall environment. Normally, I’d have to go on online credentials or hear from alumni if I wanted to make my final decision on going to a state school. The experience of my day at grove was personal. And we hear time and time again how important it is to listen to the buyer when we are selling. Luckily Professor Sweet, helped me make my decision to apply to Grove City on the last day of final applications.

  1. I think this is a good example of strategic reflection. Prof. Sweet did a great job of making you feel comfortable and relaxed while in an otherwise fairly stressful environment which left you with a positive impression of the faculty and school overall.

  2. Hey Frances! I am glad you ended up at Grove City:) I also liked how you highlighted Professor Sweet’s approach to selling you to the Entr. department. Can’t wait to see what you do!
