As a very introverted person, the idea of being a salesperson terrifies me. Although you probably figured that out in class last week. However, Professor Sweet made a comment that really stood to me. He said something like just because someone is introverted, doesn’t mean they’d be a terrible salesperson. I have been thinking a lot about that. While I personally have no interest in sales right now, if I were to pursue sales, I would definitely get as much training and study up on it as possible. That is my personality and one of my Kolbe traits. I get details and research heavily prior to taking a risk. Right now I’m terrified of sales, but the more I practice and challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone the more comfortable I’d be.

I found some reasons why introverts make great salespeople, along with the reasons we discussed in class. Professor Sweet mentioned several reasons in class as to why introverts can be good at sales.

  1. Introverts are really good listeners.

Introverts will let the buyer do the talking (as is important in sales). They will listen and provide details when necessary, but they will make sure the buyer’s needs are prioritized.

  1. Introverts will form relationships with their clients and keep coming back to them.

Talking to new people and strangers can be scary for introverts. To compensate for this, introvert salespeople will create strong relationships with their clients and continue selling to them throughout the years.

  1. Introverts are passionate.

Introverts are passionate about what they set their minds too. If they have made the effort to get into something, they are going to fulfill that and be persistent about it. Even if they need to additional research or need to put more attention onto something, they will complete it.

Introverts can make great salespeople when they set their minds to it, and when they challenge themselves to step out of their comfort zone. This is something I myself to remember as I explore career possibilities.

  1. I do agree that introverts can still be great sales people since they do have such excellent listening skills and will not chat off the costumers ear. Sometimes I believe it could not be great to be introverted if someone really needs someone to explain something so you may not tell them everything that they need to know which is why it is best to have a little of each.
