Non-sales selling is something we talked about in class but I wanted to expand on it a little bit from what I have read and listened to and my takeaways from this topic. Non-sales selling when it comes down to it is simply influencing and persuading an individual to do something, without the end goal of selling them. Is selling them on something a great outcome? Yes. Is it a necessity? No. People in a wide array of professions like teachers or healthcare workers engage in non-sales selling All the time. Teachers sell their ideas and knowledge to students every time they have a class or lecture, and healthcare workers may sell their expertise or knowledge when talking to patients. They would also most likely be selling them on making healthier choices and habits in life like not smoking or physically exercising every day. Although this doesn’t contain a product, a doctor’s goal is to help improve others’ lives, and a teacher’s goal is to pass along as much information as possible and let their students know that they know what they’re talking about. Another example of non-sales selling is when we talk to friends, peers, or family. We have all been in situations trying to convince our friends or parents of something that we want, and though we are not trying to get them to buy a product, we are trying to persuade them to do what we want, this is yet another example of non-sales selling that is very common but people don’t realize happens. All this being said, this type of selling is an essential skill in everyday life, and the art of persuasion you could call it is a necessity as it combines communication skills and personal connections together in order to achieve a desired outcome.
