Corporate and small business owners have to think about sales processes and strategies in very different ways from each other. Consider a larger corporation like Apple. Tim Cook the CEO of Apple along with his board of directors is not directly involved in the sales processes of Apple. A large corporation will have a sales department that consists of a significant amount more of employees than a small business even has in it’s network. Apple’s sales department consists of approximately 26, 568 employees. A typical small business according to the SBA consists of fewer than 500 employees. Therefore, the responsibility of the individuals in the sales team is much larger for each person. But for the purposes of looking at sales for small businesses I think of companies around 100 employees. These small businesses have to think about different sales processes and strategies compared to corporations. Here are some examples of these differences. First, I have seen this firsthand relationships in small business go a long way. What I mean by this is remember your customers names, remember a fun fact about them. This shows your customer you care. This also relates to knowing your customers and keeping them up to date. This can be through email, calls, texts, however, to stay up to date with the newest information about your business. Another important aspect of small business is to understand how to communicate to your niche market best. For example, the older generation like Facebook and email. While the younger generation typically like Instagram and texts better. This always your communication to be most effective. Another tip for sales in small business is to follow up. Make time to follow up if you don’t hear back. It takes several follow-ups to make a sale. These are a few helpful tips to consider for small businesses in sales. It is important to understand what works for corporate sales teams may not work for smaller businesses. To seek out sales strategies and processes for the small business is also important.

This was a good insight on sales to what we talk about in Dr. Powell’s retail management class. He teaches to understand your target audience and niche before you try to sell. Small businesses can fail if they don’t find a niche and use their advantage to sell. Great insight!
