I think all of us have had an experience where someone was a little too pushy during a sale, and I think most of us can agree, when you feel pushed or forced into something, you do not want to do it. But on the opposite end of things, when someone takes the time to get to know your needs and wants in a product or service, you feel safe to elaborate and you end up leaving the sale a happy customer.
I have had the same dentist (DDS) for as long as I can remember. Now that I’m older I’ve realized it is because they focused on relationship sales over pushy sales with my mother before me. And after she realized just how much attention they gave to her as an individual and how personalized her care could be with this company she was so sold that she brought along her husband, and all four kidos to also receive care at that dental office. Because the dental office as a company took the time to know, understand and care about their future patients, their sales went up. It wasn’t just my mom, but 6 of us all get our teeth cleaned at DDS now. And to further the power of relational sales, we now go around recommending our dental office to others in our lives because we had such a positive experience.
Today we see a lot of pushy sales people, and we see a lot of liars. But God asks us to be honest and hardworking in all things for the glory of God. That includes our work, our interactions with those around us, our thoughts and daily habits, in ALL things. Learning these key lessons about the impact of different types of sales people is so important because we are the new generation of sales people. And I am so thankful we are learning the right way to make sales and close the deal from a Christian perspective here at GCC.
Great thoughts here! I am guessing your mom also felt the dentist was honest with her with any issues instead of trying to sell her a procedure or fix for a non-existent issue. In the medical field I know there are many people who have lost trust with professionals because they were pushing things on their patients and not being honest. It is just another example how we must be honest, even if we don’t close a sale! Following Christ will not always be easy, but we will always be better off when we do.
Great Post! I think that something that is of significant importance is trust is any sort of field of health, whether that be in dentistry or in medicine. People have lost trust with people who work in medicine, and this is not surprising as many people are un-honest in order to accomplish bad goals. I also agree that it is good that we are learning sales from a Christian perspective, as the bible should always influence our decisions.
