One thing about me is, I love going to the hair salon to get my hair done. Every break I schedule an appointment with my hairstylist to get my regular blowout. My whole life I’ve gotten my hair straighten by multiple stylists and sometimes they come out good, sometimes not so great. I used to only go for a blowout and an occasional trim for my hair, that was because most of the stylist I was working with I didn’t trust.

I know it sounds odd I would let someone I didn’t trust do my hair, but I was desperate. It was around 2021; I walked to the local salon up the street from me for the first time. My mom told me to check it out since I had expressed, I wanted my hair done for my birthday. I met a few of the ladies there and had the owner of the shop give me a trim on my ends, the culture in the shop was very welcoming.

It wasn’t until I had one of the junior stylists do my hair for the first time that forever changed the game for me. Bre was the only stylist who was able to not only make my hair look great within less than an hour, but she was able to build a level of trust with me that I cherish. After a couple of months of getting my blowouts and trims, we exchanged phone numbers. To me this established our relationship to becoming friends where we gossiped about boys and would get Starbucks if I was in the chair for a long time.

I think for anyone, having that kind of relationship with a hairstylist or barber is important. You want to have that trust that they will provide a good service and make you look good with whatever style they do to your hair.

  1. Making a typical sales interaction into a relationship is such an easy way to build trust and honestly just makes both sides’ day better. Being able to listen to your customer or prospect is as huge in this as being able to carry a conversation. It’s a fantastic way to guarantee and long-term customer and maybe even a new friend.
