Nearing the end of this semester I have been reflecting on what I have been learning and how my biblical worldview plays into everything I learn and do. I want to go into my work field with this on the forefront of my mind. How can I be the best steward of my work and resources every day? This let me to reflect on what we have learned about sales in the startup. Many of these rules from Sandler can be applied with a Christian perspective.
I think that one of the main topics we discuss is discovering the pain. This can be looked at through a Christian perspective because you are caring for the other. The greatest commandment we have is to love our neighbor. We are doing this when we give our care and attention to prospective consumers and let them explain their pain to you.
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” JOHN 13:34-35
Another big concept that we discuss throughout the entirety of the semester is no mind reading. This means to not assume facts not in evidence and to be careful of assumptive statements. This is also can be a biblical example. We are called not to judge others. The Bible specifically says to not judge others. While mind reading is not specifically judging it is a way of assuming something about someone without actually knowing the truth.
“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” Matthew 7:1
These two main topics that we discuss frequently in class align well with a Christian perspective. When we sell, we can discover pain in loving for one another and not mind reading and not judging others.
I really like that you’ve taken two of the main principles and applied them to everyday life in a way that aligns with our Christian worldview. I had not made that connection that not making assumptions can also be related to not judging others, but that’s definitely true and something I will have to keep in mind. Great post!
I definitely agree that our Christian perspective can be tied into sales in all sorts of ways. You pointed out a big one, to love our neighbors. If we use that perspective while selling, I think the customers will be able to tell that we are different than most other salespeople.
