My dad is absolutely thrilled that I am taking this class. His hope is that I learn things that I can apply to his small business back home.

For those wondering, he owns his own mortgage brokerage- Principle Home Loans. So! If you or anyone you know happens to be looking to buy a house, hit me up. My dad can help you get a loan, and as a bonus, I receive a small referral fee. (As a broke college student with car insurance to pay, you’d really REALLY be helping me out!)

Six years ago, my dad started his company, but he’s been in the loan business for nearly thirty years. Currently, Principle Home Loans is licensed in Florida, where we live now, but we’re actively working on getting licensed in Ohio, where we used to live and where he has many connections. I’m doing my best to “non-sales” sell him on expediting the process because I believe there are plenty of people who know and trust his character and would gladly work with him or refer him to others.

All that to say- my dad is pretty great. I might be a tad biased, but I truly think he is the best at what he does. I’ve grown up watching him navigate all sorts of crazy situations, ultimately making decisions that get the client what they need, even if it means he takes a cut in what he makes. With his decades of experience and logical, no-nonsense approach, my dad is incredibly well-equipped to make the home-buying process smooth.

My problem is… how can I sell my dad? And no, not into slavery like Joseph’s brothers did (I’m sorry- that was incredibly unfunny, but it’s on my mind because it was the passage I read today), but to potential customers!?

He needs a presence on social media, but hasn’t quite figured out his angle yet. We’ve thought about incorporating my little brother into reels (he’s ten and such a funny, cute, mature little man lol), and have him share the rate… anyways, we’ll see what we come up with! Please, feel free to share ANY and ALL ideas!

  1. I love that you put a sales pitch into your blog about sales haha. It sounds like you and your dad both really know what you’re doing. I think that using your little brother would be a fun way to promote on social media! If you decide to do that, I would just get a nice wireless mic for good audio and make sure to post consistently.

  2. As a broke college student myself, I am not planning on buying a house any time soon, but I will keep this blog in mind. I think this post is very funny and creative. Taking the blog opportunity to make a sales pitch for your fathers business and very on point. As far as Social Media Marketing, there are few places better than college to find experienced SEO marketers and social media marketers. I myself have dabbled, and I know about 3 others…including Gavin Rhodes who is in our class, who really know how to optimize social media posts for maximum viewership.

  3. If you keep reading through Genesis you will read about how Joseph had to sell himself too! Like your dad, Joseph had a network where he proved himself trustworthy and skillful. Joseph was an interpreter of dreams. In prison, he interpreted the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker. When he proved himself accurate and trustworthy in jail, he was promoted to be the interpreter of Pharo’s dreams. Joseph climbed the social ladder of Egypt and became rich and powerful. Tell your dad to trust in the skills God has given him and “sell himself” to those who know him as trustworthy.

Maybe I’ll even take out a house loan from him too. Good luck! hope you get tons of referrals through this post too!

  4. Okay hilarious post first of all; great idea with the non-sales selling in a sales class post! It’s always hard to sell someone else, but I think social media sounds like a great idea! If I am ever in need of a house, I’ll let you guys know 😉
