How to Recover After a Track Meet

The day after a track meet is always a tough one because many athletes think that they should spend the day doing nothing and let their body rest. This is actually not the best way to recover, it is important to get your legs moving so all the lactic and other crap in your legs doesn’t just sit there but instead gets worked out of your body. Some good ideas for recovery are taking a walk with friends or playing a sport with light running. Other things that are good are compression boots or an ice bath.  You should also make sure to stretch and roll out your legs. Doing all this will make it so that your legs feel less tired and better recovered for practice on Monday. Some other things that you should do to make sure that you recover well is to be aware of your body and what it is telling you. Make sure that you are getting enough sleep and that you are taking care of any aches and pains. It is also important to fuel your body well as it is likely dehydrated and malnourished from the exertion that occurred yesterday. By doing all these things you will set your body up well to be able to continue to perform well and keep your body in good condition. The last thing that you want to do is goof off during a recovery day and then get injured or pick up some nagging pain because you didn’t take your recovery seriously. Make sure to find what works for you and stick to it even if you don’t feel that bad after a meet.
