Flammulated owls breed all throughout the rocky mountains and in the mountainous parts of northern Mexico. They migrate in the middle-eastern portion of mexico, and are resident in south-western mexico in the mountains.\">\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" aria-label=\"previous\" role=\"button\">\n<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<a href=\"#\" aria-label=\"next\" role=\"button\">\n<\/a>\n<h2>\n\t\tThe Flammulated Owl\n\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>The Flammulated Owl (psiloscops flammeolus) is the only member of its genus. The word \u201cFlammulted\u201d is latin for \u201cflame-colored,\u201d which refers to the owl\u2019s unique plummage colors. In fact, their unique coloration helps them blend in while they sleep close to the tree trunk. They imitate broken tree branches by doing this. Flammulated Owls eat mostly small insects, with the main one being Lepidoptera. They will also eat shrews and other small rodents.<\/p>\n<p>Flammulated Owls nest in tree cavities and have clutches of 2-4 eggs annually. For nesting, they prefer ponderosa pine, Douglass fir, or deciduous trees. Uniquely, they tend to nest in loose colonies, where the females rely on the males to forage food for them during incubation. Even in non-breeding season, Flammulated Owls choose to live in pairs. They prefer forests with a bushy underbrush, and are nocturnal.<\/p>\n<p>As for range, Flammulated Owls can be found in North and Central America. They typically live in Mexico aside from the warmer months, when they migrate north to breed and rear their young.
