Since we are beginning our SEO challenge for this class, I thought it might be good to do some research on the best ways to fill content gaps on a website. I consulted a step-by-step guide from SEMrush<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEMrush recommends finding out what your competition is ranking for on the SERP because often you can find fresh forms of content from competitors. My group is planning on redesigning the student life tab on gcc.edu. A good place for us to start brainstorming ideas might be to search for the content produced by other Christian colleges. For example, we could look up “student life Messiah” or “student life Cedarville” to see what their webpages look like with regard to campus life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEMrush then suggests determining what your target audience is looking for when they’re searching. Our target audience is parents and prospective students. We could create search personas for these groups or do a survey of underclassmen to find out what they were curious about when trying to choose a college to help us accomplish this goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The third step recommended by SEMrush is to “find underperforming content.” If we were an SEO firm working for the college, we could probably do this by consulting GCC’s website analytics to find out which pages are viewed the most and which pages are not frequently viewed. More specifically with regard to our webpage, we could find out which links on the student life page are clicked most often and which links are not usually viewed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finally, SEMrush suggests determining the search intent of users. We could do this by using Wordstream or another SEO platform to see which keywords (relevant to our content) are being searched the most and then brainstorming the possible reasons that searchers would look up these phrases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think that following these steps could help our group create more organized and effective content to propose to the admissions office for our project. In order to meet users’ and the search engine’s expectations, it is crucial to make sure that your content is effective at serving searchers’ needs. Using these strategies would help us find out what our webpage is lacking and how we could design new content that would better meet prospective students’ and their parents’ needs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
