In class on 2\/12 Prof. Sweet talked about mimicry and body language and I thought it would be interesting to see what kinds of online resources there might be for instruction on this topic.\u00a0 I know many of us are naturally able to read body language.\u00a0 Some things are pretty easy to distinguish.\u00a0 Often we can easily identify when a person is upset or sad.\u00a0 But I am curious about the subtle things and what those things mean.<\/p>\n
On one website, the author spoke of the risk involved if you do not know what someone is thinking.\u00a0 I had never thought about the idea of a risk to me, but it is true.\u00a0 If we do not know what someone is thinking, we may “spill all the candy” or miss out on a sale because of not knowing what they are thinking.<\/p>\n
From my reading it seems that we can detect an issue non-verbally before there is a verbal expression of a problem if we pay close attention.\u00a0 This could be really helpful if you can sense something before something is spoken and can mitigate an issue before an is voiced.<\/p>\n
There are signs to look for to tell if someone likes you or not.\u00a0 There are signs to look for to see if someone is lying to you. One article said that it is not so hard verbally tell a lie, but a lot harder to cover the emotions that often come along with a lie.<\/p>\n
There are also ways to tell if someone is trustworthy or not.\u00a0 One thing that was first mentioned is how important it is to build trust.\u00a0 Professor Sweet has talked about this quite a lot in class.\u00a0 However, there are times when we don’t necessarily have time to build a relationship and we have to make a decision quickly.\u00a0 If this case there are subtle clues to watch for in determining whether or not someone is trustworthy.<\/p>\n
