Recently in another class of mine called <\/span>persuasion<\/span> theory, we have been discussing things that closely align<\/span>\u00a0with sales, such as debating and <\/span>negotiation<\/span>. For our last <\/span>class<\/span> assignment, we each got put into two sides of <\/span>Sally’s<\/span> agent <\/span>or the opera house. Sally used to be a famous opera singer but as time went on and she got older her popularity <\/span>decreased<\/span> which seemed to be common in the situation. Sally was in a show that she had <\/span>been practicing for months <\/span>now,<\/span> and it turns out that the lead opera singer quit or simply vanished. Now the opera house is in <\/span>a bad <\/span>situation<\/span> with no lead singer. <\/span>Sally had actually played that lead role before when she was <\/span>a little bit younger.<\/span> The job of <\/span>Sally’s<\/span> agent was to get her that role no matter what. Sally did not care about the money she just wanted the role. <\/span>The<\/span> past lead singer was said to get $24,000 for the role but when <\/span>Sally played it years <\/span>ago,<\/span> she got around $20,000 which was more than enough for her. The Opera House had a job to get someone into that role <\/span>immediately<\/span>, they were willing to <\/span>group<\/span> to $46,000<\/span>. Neither side knew what the other one <\/span>wanted,<\/span> that Sally would have done it for free or that the opera house would have done it for <\/span>$46,000. We had to debate within our groups a lot of teams ended around the $28,000 mark and they both came clean at the end of what they would have gone for. <\/span>It really seemed that it<\/span> depended on who went <\/span>first,<\/span> and I got to <\/span>use it<\/span> and see sales tricks in action.<\/span> A lot of groups included add-ons<\/span> such as her audition room or a \u201c<\/span>triumphant<\/span> return\u201d PR stunt. It was <\/span>very interesting<\/span> to see how everything worked out in the end and how simply asking for something could <\/span>work out for your benefit since most people are kind and helpful. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
