This sales thing is a harder than I thought!<\/p>\n
Today Professor Sweet told us to split into teams and sell ducks for the Okie\/ABT Ducky Derby. The top two teams would win the ultimate prize- a Wing Night. For those unfamiliar with Wing Nights are held at Professor Smith’s beautiful lakehouse, where Professor Sweet orders and endless supply of some of the best wings you could image, and we feast to our heart’s content.<\/p>\n
This, of course, was motivation enough. Of course, all the money we collected, would go to support women with breast cancer- a noble cause as well.<\/p>\n
My group included Nathan, Jonathan, and Elise. We split up and tackled the two dining halls. Shelia, the MAP cashier, was our first sale! Elise and I made six other sales in the dining hall, but the majority of our sales came from the Telegram chats we passed the QR code to. My hall chat, Elise’s theater chat, and Nathan’s VP campaign chat gave us quite a few sales…<\/p>\n
Anyways, it was more difficult than I thought. I approached two girls I didn’t know very well, and started selling them on all the benefits of purchasing the ducks for the fundraiser… I felt myself do everything I knew I shouldn’t do in a sales conversation (100% was spilling my candy in the lobby). As I went on, I began to realize I didn’t even fully know what I was selling. I didn’t know how the derby worked, what the prizes were, etc. They 100% gave me the sale because they felt bad and most likely, just wanted me to go away.<\/p>\n
My best sale, I think, was to Professor Smith. I recall him saying that he loves to support various student endeavors, so some of us rushed to his office. I reminded him of his claim when he asked what was in it for him… frankly, I think I could’ve done better but I didn’t have the idea until our time was nearly up.<\/p>\n
Looking back, our best bet would have most likely been to contact the most generous people I know back home… friends and family with some money to spare…<\/p>\n
I did learn from the whole experience… you need to be prepared and with time to spare!<\/p>\n
