Young Life has taught me a lot about selling and how to sell Young Life to younger people. Their mission is “going where kids are and building personal relationships with them” and “providing fun, adventurous, life-changing experiences” while “working in community alongside like-minded adults (volunteer leaders, committee members, donors and staff).” In order to sell this to a middle schooler, high schooler, or a person with special needs, a Young Life leader needs to understand and see where the other person is coming from. Selling the idea of a ministry of hanging out with kids and showing them who Jesus is sounds great to many people, but it could also look skeptical to concerned parents or kids who are hesitant about the idea. Doing contact work, which is going into schools and talking to kids, helps to slowly introduce the concept of Young Life towards the kids. Sometimes selling something starts off with slowly introducing it instead of having it all up the potential customer’s face. Contact work for Young Life has also shown me the importance of how to keep a conversation and how to ask good questions. Talking to kids has helped me to understand where kids are coming from a bit better and it’s also a great way to practice what we have learned in class through Pink’s book. Another aspect of selling that Young Life has taught me is how to “sell the Gospel” to kids. The gospel can be a tricky concept to sell to kids but Young Life helps to ease the process for kids to incorporate it into their lives. A big way that Young Life has helped to sell the gospel is through “club” which is a hanging out with the kids and through campaigners. Club helps to sell the gospel by introducing a “club talk” that talks more about Jesus and the gospel so that the kids can understand. Campaigners help kids share the gospel with their friends and other kids at the school. Overall, Young Life is a great way to help sell the gospel and also teaches way to sell the ministry to people.<\/p>\n
