Having a mentor is one of the biggest things\u00a0I look forward to when starting out at my future job\u00a0after college. After working at a small company and not getting much guidance with what they wanted from me or\u00a0how I should be improving, I felt lost. I am excited to work for a bigger company for many reasons, but having a mentor\u00a0is definitely\u00a0near the top.<\/p>\n
There are many pros to having a mentor. One is that they give you\u00a0insights to new ideas and ways of thinking. Everyone thinks at least a little differently, and a mentor can definitely see things that you may not,\u00a0Another is\u00a0how helpful they are\u00a0on developing strengths and overcoming weaknesses.\u00a0They see things from an objective perspective but\u00a0they also\u00a0care about\u00a0you and want you to improve.\u00a0Mentors can also give guidance on professional development and advancement. Likely, your mentor is above you in some capacity, whether that is\u00a0experience or title. They have probably been in your shoes,\u00a0so they will know\u00a0how to advance, since they have.<\/p>\n
Not every company offers a mentor for their employees, or not officially at least. However, in most companies, there will be\u00a0people who care about helping people.\u00a0If you put some effort\u00a0into finding someone, they will more than likely be willing to help.<\/p>\n
