By\nframing objections positively, rather than ignoring or downplaying them,\nsalespeople connect with potential customers on a deep level. I think that this\nconcept has significant implications for the way we manage our thoughts about\nundesirable tasks in our daily lives. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I believe that as I grew up, my parents used non-sales\nselling to teach me certain values and good habits. For instance, I often\ncomplained about not wanting to do my homework. My parents could have easily\ndownplayed my objections by saying something like, \u201chomework is never fun, but\njust get through it \u2013 it will only take an hour.\u201d Instead, they positively\novercame my objections. My dad would frame tasks that I deemed unpleasant in a\npositive light, saying things such as, \u201ceven from the most boring homework, you\ncan learn something important. I know you don\u2019t want to write that paper, but\nevery sentence you write is practice, a learning experience preparing you for\nsomething great that you <em>will<\/em> want to\nwrite in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although they didn\u2019t know they were doing so, my parents utilized\none of the most important sales techniques to teach me how to motivate myself\nto accomplish any type of task. I am so grateful for this experience because I still\nuse this mindset on a daily basis to overcome my own objections. It\u2019s even helped\nme battle my natural tendency toward pessimism. I believe overcoming unhelpful\nattitudes and thoughts is one of the most empowering and motivating experiences\na person can have. It helps us achieve almost anything we put our minds to, and\nI\u2019m sure it has a positive impact on our perceptions of our own abilities and even\nour self-confidence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What struck me most about Coach DiDonato\u2019s talk last week was his point that objections are actually great opportunities to sell.
