With mine I knew the direction that I wanted\nto go which helped, but I couldn\u2019t plan what Lindy was going to say. I tried\nasking open ended questions that might get me the answers that I wanted and lead\nme in the direction of asking for an appointment. Luckily, that worked, but I\nthink thinking on the fly is going to be one of the hardest things to do in\nsales. Here\u2019s just a few tips I found on how to improve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Have knowledge on the subject <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For this I think it was pretty easy since we had to come up with\nthe idea. However, as a new sales trainee fresh out of graduation this may be a\nlittle more difficult. I know once we graduate, we never want to hear the world\nhomework again, but to be a great salesperson you\u2019re going to need to study up\non your product or service. From the customers point of view, it will be easy\nto tell whether you know your product or not, so don\u2019t let that be the reason\nyou don\u2019t make the sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Actually care and let it show<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can tell when a person could care less about their products\nand have that \u201chere it is, take it or leave it approach\u201d. If you want to be a successful\nsalesperson show the customer that you are enthusiastic about determining if\nyour product will meet their needs. Even if you really don\u2019t at least try, I mean\nyou\u2019re getting paid to. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Find ways to pause<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re have trouble thinking quick, implement ways to\nslow down the conversation. Professor Sweet said one way to do this is to ask\nfor clarification and restate what was said. This will give you time to process\nthe conversation and think about what direction you\u2019d like to move towards. Garrett\ngave us another example and that was taking notes. This eliminates the awkward pause\nwhile you think of the next question and it also shows the customer that you\ncare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thinking on the fly is one of those things where practice is going to be the most help. The more opportunities that you put yourself in the better the outcomes will be as time goes on.
