Google search trends show that\nthe term has had maintained relevance consistently over the past 6 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Gamification\ndoes not simply mean giving users meaningless badges and titles. This version\nof gamification was used heavily in the early 2010s and implementers quickly\nlearned that it simply wasn\u2019t effective. Real gamification comes from\nunderstanding the psychology behind why people like games and what makes them\naddictive and rewarding and applying these things to a marketing strategy or\napplication. Duolingo is a prime example of properly implementing gamification\nas a business model. This includes difficulty selection, milestones that\nrequire completion before further progress is allowed, and meaningful badges that\nhighlight and represent actual accomplishments.
