He describes a few situations which can either make or break a deal and suggests alternate phrasing to try instead.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Negatives.\u00a0<\/strong>Don\u2019t point out the negatives your client probably wouldn\u2019t notice. Forcing your OCD perfectionism on another person doesn\u2019t make you a more honest salesperson, just an unnecessary one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have to\/Need to\/Must.<\/strong> Rather than saying, \u201cMolly, you have to stay over at Grandma\u2019s tonight,\u201d try, \u201cMolly, you <em>get<\/em> to stay at Grandma\u2019s tonight!\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>TMI.\u00a0<\/strong>Art gives three awesome examples of this:<strong>Instead of,<\/strong>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just calling today \u2026\u201d, use,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m CALLING today \u2026\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead of,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll have to check on that for you.\u201d, use,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll be happy to research that for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Instead of,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ll try to get to that,\u201d use,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will personally get that done by tomorrow morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even in my own interactions, I\u2019ve learned the value of positioning things in a certain light and what a different reaction someone might have if you change just one word in your explanation.
