{"id":9062,"date":"2022-03-14T04:06:49","date_gmt":"2022-03-14T04:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/?p=9062"},"modified":"2022-03-14T04:06:49","modified_gmt":"2022-03-14T04:06:49","slug":"the-pittsburgh-home-and-garden-show-a-lesson-in-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/the-pittsburgh-home-and-garden-show-a-lesson-in-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"The Pittsburgh Home and Garden Show &#8211; A Lesson in Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Home and Garden Show was held at the David Lawrence Convention Center over the past week.\u00a0 There are many things that vendors are selling there, that can be purchased and taken home by the customer on the spot such as garden decorations, wine, dog leashes, moonshine, home decorating items such as lamps, hoses, door mats and much, much more. In addition, there are many things that must be ordered and then delivered or installed, such as whole storage barns, hot tubs, siding, roofing, patios, sunrooms and so much more. \u00a0 It\u2019s a great place to witness and experience all types and styles of salesmen and selling techniques.<\/p>\n<p>There are salesmen speaking to people as they walk by, asking them a question to get them into their booths.\u00a0 There are people doing demonstrations of their products, such as putting dirt or water onto a door mat, and demonstrating just how great their fake chamois cloth cleans and picks up dirt and water.\u00a0 The people demonstrating always have a special show deal to entice the customer to purchase more or close the sale.\u00a0 These salesmen are using direct sales techniques and are selling the product directly to the customer face to face, using a sales pitch, lots of fast talking and some pressure tactics, much like the old car salesman I talked about in my other blog.\u00a0 If they sense the customer is almost ready to purchase the product, they will throw out another offer or deal, to try to close the sale before the customer walks away.<\/p>\n<p>The other main aspect of the show besides, direct sales of products there, are lead generation.\u00a0 Having a booth at a specialized show is advantageous to the seller because their target market is who is coming to the show, so their percentage of sales success should be higher.\u00a0 Most of the product booths at the Home and Garden Show need to be ordered, delivered or installed at a later time. \u00a0 These salesmen are trying to get leads, so they can follow up with the potential customers at a later date.\u00a0 If they are lucky, they may be able to set up an an actual appointment at the customer\u2019s house to discuss the product and give a quote.\u00a0 Vendors selling roofing, siding, sunrooms, flooring and like products would be taking this approach.\u00a0 They would be attempting to collect customer lead information and set up appointments in the future.\u00a0 This is better than cold calling, because the customer gave them their contact information and they are in the target market because they attended the show.\u00a0 Again, this should lead to a higher sales success rate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Home and Garden Show was held at the David Lawrence Convention Center over the past week.\u00a0 There are many things that vendors are selling there, that can be purchased and taken home by the customer on the spot such as garden decorations, wine, dog leashes, moonshine, home decorating items such as lamps, hoses, door [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":833,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[256,257,153,27,197],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9062","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-businesssales","category-businesssmallbusiness","category-customer-service","category-sales-struggles","category-salesmen"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9062","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/833"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=9062"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9062\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":9072,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/9062\/revisions\/9072"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=9062"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=9062"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/gccwebsites.com\/startupsales\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=9062"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
