Brand New Google Desktop Search Design

New updates within Google’s desktop search results will hopefully enable easier usage for searchers. The most distinct change is that Google updated the desktop search results with favicons and site names. A favicon is essentially a visual reminder of the website identity and it is included in the address bar or in tabs. They should not be confused with logos but they do serve a similar function.

The goal in adding this feature is a part of Google’s overall objective in making ads and search results more visually recognizable. Incorporating the favicon allows the searcher to identify the webpage link with the associated image. Plus, Google plans to adjust the size and shape of these favicons accordingly to best fit the SERP.

In conclusion, a site that is more visually appealing as well as accurate in terms of its site name can increase the overall search traffic and clicks on the website itself. Likewise, for marketers as well as people working in the SEO industry, this switch will instruct the need for structured data to better enhance a company’s search results.

This is a good move for Google. Human learning, memory, and attention is greatly enhanced by visual aids. Even a brief spot of color on the page can indicate familiarity and trustworthiness for the site.
