Introduction to Structured Data for SEO

When you perform a Google search, Google may produce a specialized box of information to answer the query. These boxes can deliver content from one or multiple relevant websites. If you have optimized a webpage very well, Google may display your content as structured data – which might mean a golden ticket to new traffic and increased conversions.

What are the different types of structured data?

  1. Sitelinks search box – a main landing page with links to popular landing pages within the website
  1. OneBox result – displays a single, authoritative response to factual queries
  1. Featured snippet – displays a highlighted description from a website
  1. Knowledge panels – organized facts and synopsis about a well-known person or place
  1. Google My Business – organized facts, synopsis, and contact information about a business
  1. Rich cards – respond to query highlighting various relevant webpages; rich cards are highly visual to help users scroll through results efficiently
  1. Rich snippets – more detailed and organized “blue link” search result. Rich snippets can include images, videos, charts, ratings, and other information.

WordPress plugins, like Schema Pro, can help you optimize your webpages for structured rich results. Maximizing structured data for your website will help your site appear more authoritative and helpful to users and search engines.
