How to Choose the Best Keywords

Key word research is THE most important part of SEO, in fact they can make or break your entire SEO campaign.

How do you choose the “right” keywords?

Step #1: Create a Keyword list

The goal is to create a giant list of keywords without focus on competition or CPC.

Google Keyword Planner is a great tool for Seo keyword research You can enter a keyword related to your business in the “Find new keywords” field to find related terms.

Step #2: Find Low Competition Terms

After creating a large keyword list, identify keywords that are not competitive. To do this, you can use tools like Moz.com. After a few searches on this site, you’ll get an idea of what’s “low competition” in your industry. In general, the lower the DA (Domain Authority) and PA (Page Authority), the better.

Step #3: Identify Search Volume

In Step three you want to see how many people search for the keywords in your list. This data is found inside Google Keyword Planner under “Average monthly searches”. However, even though this data comes straight from Google, the number is an estimated range.

Step #4: Assess Earning Potential

Will your words make you money?

You can look at “Top of Page Bid” and “Product -Keyword Fit” to figure that out. These measure how much an advertiser generally spends for a single click and how well the keywords relate to what you sell. Ranking high on these mean there is more earning potential.

Step #5: Estimate Organic CTR

Search volume is helpful, but if no one clicks on the results, it doesn’t matter how many people search for a selected term. You can look at the SERPs for your keyword to see where it ranks. Usually there are ads and a “People Ask” before the actual organic results.

Step #6: Choose Trending Keywords

This step looks at whether keywords on your list are trending up or down. To look at this, you can use Google trends’ graphs they create for keywords. An increase in popularity in the graph is a good sign to choose your keywords.
