In class we learned extensively about the bad practices of SEO. Black hat SEO is a way of improving your sites ranking in a way that doesn’t follow the search engine guidelines or is done in a deceiving way. Using these tactics is an easy way to be blocked or banned. If this occurs you would have to go through the rigorous task of removing all the risky optimization techniques you used, and then request to get re-included in the search engine. Let’s take a look into a couple specific black hat practices.
Scraped Content is when you steal and copy most of the content from another person’s website. Laziness and a lack of innovation would be the main reasons someone may try to do this. Digital plagiarism is a good way of getting your site rights taken away from you. Even if you get away with it, you won’t be ranked very high because your content won’t be original and fresh.
Another deceiving tactic that some people use is by adding “doorways.” These are pages that’s sole purpose is to redirect you to a different site. The goal is to trick the user into thinking they are getting certain content and then transferring them to a site that they have no interest in. No value is being offered to the user, which is what search engines look for. Using this tactic is not a good way to earn a high position in with the SE. Honesty and integrity are needed when building your site and implementing SEO.
