Link Juice – what on earth is that?
Yeah, I know, that is a pretty bizarre term. The mental images Link Juice produces certainly leaves a few questions in my mind too.
Think of it this way, “I need to juice up this blog post.” What does that mean to you? To juice up something probably means to beef it up or buff it up, or to add something of value to it. If you juice up a car you are putting some gas in it.
Link juice is not far from that. Links in themselves are the currency of the internet. Link Juice is the value passed from a website to another via the means of hyperlinking one another. To acquire this kind of value two websites simply need to reference one another, or one website can reference another website, adding that value to the website that was linked.
The quality and quantity of this link juice does indeed matter. Links from another site simply is not enough, and links from poor performing websites simply is not enough either. Think of it this way: 100 links from some obscure mommy blogger who has a following of 300 versus 1 link from Fox News homepage. The Fox News homepage link carries significantly more weight than the 100 links on the mommy blogger page.
In the end, earning these links is a strategic effort, but it is incredibly rewarding when done well, and future posts will discuss how to earn these links.
