If one ever plans to create a website to display their company, it is important to think about how the consumers will reach your site. For example, if you are selling donuts in Grove City PA, how will the consumers find your information online by search? If a person types in “really good donuts in Grove City PA” there will be a list of sponsored or big companies who have made it easy for consumers to find them. This is the importance of SEO: you are making yourself found by consumers in the digital world and this allows them to connect with you and learn more about your product.
With this in mind, Google has a good summary on starting to SEO and how the searching process and results work. First, they talk about how Google search works. They use crawlers which are code that explore the web looking for pages to add to their index. Whenever anyone publishes a website, there are crawlers that are exploring the page. There is even an option where you can publish a page but not open it into the public.
Second, they gave tips on organizing one’s site. It is always important to put a lot of thought into how you will divide your website. If you have some content where it does not go, it can be confusing for the user. Furthermore, it can also cause frustration if they are trying to look for something that is not where it is supposed to be. Google suggests using descriptive URLs. The URL is also known as the uniform resource locator. This locator is displayed on the search results and it can be useful to have a good URL as it can give little bits of information regarding the website. Furthermore, Google also suggests grouping similar pages in the directories. Not only does it help the consumer, but how one organizes the website can also affect how Google crawls the site. Lastly, Google suggests reducing duplicate content. By duplicating one’s content, it can show lack of effort and also seem less interesting. Google does a great job giving tips and a little guide to how search results work and how to do SEO well.

Good job on your post! I like how you related SEO to a practical example of an organization in Grove City. I also found the information on URLs interesting. I never thought about using a descriptive URL to your advantage.
