The Trend of Voice Search

I have very little experience with Search Engine Optimization. I am a Supply Chain Management and Marketing major but have more recently added my Marketing major. I know that this topic will be very important regardless of which area of business I choose to pursue. I read an article on Voice Search Optimization titled “Voice Search Optimization: What Is It and How Important Is It Now?” in order to learn more about specific trends within SEO.

According to Statista, over 25% of individuals from Western countries indicated using digital voice assistants several times per day. This number is expected to grow more each year, as the number of digital voice assistants in use worldwide has been significantly increasing over the past 5 years. In 2019, the number of digital voice assistants was 3.25 billion. In 2024, the same metric grew to 8.4 billion. It is important to understand how to best optimize voice search, both as a consumer and as a future business professional.

Voice search optimization means that companies need to learn how to tailor their sites for voice search queries. Though there are some similarities for best practices in optimizing regular search and voice search, there are some key differences to be aware of. There have been improvements as more data has become available. It is predicted that voice assistants will be able to learn an individual’s tones, words, and phrases that they commonly use. It is also able to understand the context based on past conversations. Both of these combined allow for a more tailored and personalized search result for the user.

One way that this trend may impact search engine optimization is that people may become more comfortable speaking longer content phrases. This more conversational long-form query may force website designers to tailor keywords and phrases to result in more accurate results. Search engines will need to adapt to interpret more nuanced questions, especially as users are multi-tasking and desire quick responses. Though users may be asking in a more conversational style, they still want a simple and to the point response.  Many of the same SEO basics apply to voice search, but there may be more nuanced applications in order to ensure your company is not falling behind in the world of digital media.

I like the fact that you touched on voice search, I think it is overlooked too often and can definitely be capitalized upon in the marketing world.

I think you raised some important points about the future of search. It will be interesting to see how companies begin to optimize their content for voice search. It makes me wonder if we will start seeing content that is written more similarly to how we speak rather than how we write or if marketers will find other ways to optimize for voice search.

It crazy to think where technology is going. I can’t even imagine using voice search in the future, but it does seem to be where the world is going. I do wonder if companies will begin to optimize their content for voice searching. And if that does happen when will we begin to see that happen.
