SEO Blog Post #2

This week I read an article about how SEO can actually save your company money. Many people are hesitant to start SEO in their organization because they don’t know what they’re doing or they don’t want to spend money on something that seems new and behind the scenes. This could not be more wrong. Companies spend so much money on advertisements like print ads and, while they have their place, they are often far less effective than online advertisements. This article said that optimizing your website for search engines should be a companies number one priority. The reason that Search Engine Optimization is the most cost effective is because you get to promote your product to the specific people that want to purchase it. If someone wants to buy something and your product pops up first online, there is a much greater chance of someone purchasing that product than putting out a print ad and hoping it reaches the correct market of people. Through effective SEO you save money, increase traffic, and increase the opportunity for true conversions and purchases of people who genuinely want your product or service. I found this article really interesting because it talks about a really important principle of patience. A lot of companies want to see immediate results and an immediate return on their investment. SEO is sometimes hard to convince people of because it is flashy like a bright printed ad. SEO is a secret weapon in the background of your advertising. It will end up paying off but you have to take a chance and spend money to use it and give time to see true results. This article opened my eyes to the tension that may arise in companies that are split about the effectiveness of SEO. That’s why this class will be very important so I can gain first hand experience and be able to explain the cost effectiveness of search engine optimization. https://www.makeitactive.com/faq/seo-faqs/seo-saves-money

Hi Jenna! I thought you brought up a really great point about patience when working with SEO. It can be frustrating to have to wait to start seeing results from SEO efforts – especially in our world that is used to getting what we want instantaneously from technology. I think this is a great reminder that just because you don’t see progress right away, that doesn’t mean that SEO is a bad investment.

Jenna, great post you nailed it. Good SEO has one of the highest return rates due to its ability to reach its designated target. Print ads and email blasts are all still important and should be utilized but they do not hold the power of productivity that SEO has when it is done well and lands your page at the top of the SERP on the first page.
