There are many effective and useful keywords, but the key is knowing how to find ones that generate searches and conversions. This is one of the most crucial steps to a website and the first step in gaining traffic. The best way to create keywords that generate searches and conversions is to:
- Do target market research, and understand your personas.
- Who are the target users of your website? ID the users.
- This can be a large variety of people (very rarely all the same). Divide these people into groups.
- Is your content and website relevant to your target audience?
- Understand what they need out of your site (their “pain” that they are searching for), and what they are hoping to get from your site (what they can “gain”)
- Understand your persona (begin with the end user in mind). Understanding your persona is the first and last step to generating good keywords and continuing this cycle.
- Keyword process
- 1. Research the target market established above. What are their needs or hopes?
- 2. Brainstorm ideas for keywords that would pertain to your audience. Explore in full range and think outside the box.
- 3. Do your research on these words. What does the competition look like? Which terms achievable and relevant?
- 4. Size down and make sure you have a manageable number (3-5).
- Ultimately put yourself in the shoes of your target market, and that will help to begin the process of brainstorming for relevant keywords.
