SEO and Raccoons: How to Drive Traffic

SEO is a lot like being a raccoon when it comes to compiling keywords for your website, you need to dig through the trash to find the treasure. Keywords/key phrases are often hard to find for your website because a lot of the keywords already have such a high search rate and the number of sites attached to said keywords are so oversaturated it almost makes it seem like it’s not even worth it to try and look hard for diamonds in the rough. However, it is important to consider aspects of your website that might not even be related to your key idea.

For example, if you were in the business of selling oil barrels, you might have the keywords “oil, barrel, purchase, near me, etc.”, all of the ones necessary for Google to have a good grasp on what your website is about. Now it is time to think, what else are oil barrels used for? Then you start to think, paintball obstacles, youth group events, boat dock supports, etc. This is what being a “raccoon” in SEO is: finding and creating openings for your website in a world of keyword saturation. Use this strategy the next time you find yourself updating your website keyword list and see what happens! You’ll be surprised what you’ll find.

I really like the comparison you made in this post! SEO can be a lot of digging through “The Trash” as you say, to find the right keywords to make a successful website! In the first few weeks of class I realized that SEO can be a lot of trial and error until you find just the right combination of words and phrases!

You made a really great comparison in your post! SEO can be filled with lots of trial and error, picking things out that you find out don’t work and then throwing them away and finding something new. It’s important to continue searching until you find out what works best for your business because then you will be able to gain customers and grow your company.

Your title definitely caught my attention haha. I think you made some really great points. Sometimes keywords that are less obvious choices are less competitive. It’s important to be creative when considering which keywords you put most of your effort into ranking for when you’re designing your SEO strategy.
