Bad SEO Practices and how to avoid them

This week I read an article all about bad practices in search engine optimization and how to avoid these practices. Bad SEO is any practice that will hurt your rankings or provide poor user experience. Bad SEO can be accidental or intentional. Accidental SEO would be something like having duplicate content. Intentional SEO would be exploiting your algorithm with unethical technique. Below I will explore the seven bad SEO practices listed in the article and what they are:
1. Low-quality content: Low quality content means it isn’t original or doesn’t answer the search query
2. Duplicate Content: Duplicate content is content that is repeated or the same on multiple areas.
3. Too many ads above the fold: This refers to having a top heavy page meaning there are so many ads above the fold of your site that the user can’t even see your content.
4. Keyword Stuffing: Keyword stuffing is the practice of loading content with keywords that are unnatural and difficult to read.
5. Toxic Backlinks: Toxic backlinks can hard your websites visibility and results. Some examples of these are buying or selling links or exchanging links for money or goods.
6. Content Spinning: This is taking someone else’s piece of content, tweaking it slightly and then publishing it to your own website. In other words, this is plagiarism.
7. Over-optimized anchor text: This is the clickable text that connects you to a link. Over optimized text means it is stuffed with keywords in order to rank higher.

Overall, I found this article extremely helpful and interested and it made me more aware of how to practice SEO in an ethical manner.

This article is great! I like how simple yet effective it is, especially with pointing out the error or duplicate content. I feel like as simple as it is, that could be something missed when reviewing content that will negatively impact the website.
