Video SEO Tips

I recently read the article titled 9 Video SEO Tips to Help Your Videos Rank from the blog section of Semrush. The first tip was to make videos about topics that people are searching for through a keyword search tool such as Semrush’s Keyword Magic Tool. The second tip is to make high-quality videos with captivating intros. They should add value as well as meet certain production quality standards in order to maintain viewership. The next suggestion was to optimize the video title. Google looks at the title of the video in an attempt to understand what topic the video covers. It is best practice to include the main keyword in the title and to keep it under 60 characters. Similar to optimizing the title, it is recommended to optimize the video descriptions as well. The number to remember here is to keep it under 120 characters. The fifth tip is to create eye-catching thumbnails. They should both catch the attention of viewers but also relate information about what the video will be about if they click on it. The next suggestion is to create time stamps in your video which can help break the information into more digestible sections. To do this, write the timecode in MM:SS format and keep the labels brief. The seventh suggestion is to embed your videos into relevant webpages. The eighth tip is to add schema markup (a code that gives Google additional context about your content) to pages with embedded videos. The final suggestion is to build links to pages with videos using Semrush’s Link Building Tool.

I found it interesting upon reading this article that most of these tips are consistent with SEO for a regular website or blog post. The only main differences were about production quality and the thumbnail specifics. What do you guys think are the biggest differences between everything we have learned so far and SEO for videos?

This is great! Videos are a huge tool to use to engage your audience and I feel that they are overlooked when it comes to SEO. Aligning with your videos with your SEO tactics makes sense and from an advertising perspective, repetition through the same words and phrases will only help the consumer tie those keywords or key phrases to your company.
