Top 3 SEO Content Writing Mistakes

I watched Matt Diamante’s video “5 SEO Content Writing Mistakes That Are Killing Your Rankings.” In this video, he discussed the top 5 mistakes he sees people make in content writing that kill the optimization if their site. I will be sharing the top 3 I found most interesting.

#1 Content from Scratch

Many bloggers often grab their laptop and start typing without any plan or outline. This is not only wildly inefficient, as it can take multiple hours to write, but also is ineffective. Google rewards the use of EEAT, experience, expertise, authority, and trust. By simply typing away, you will likely not fulfill any of these. Matt advised using past content you have obtained, like recordings, to write with authentic examples. Writing from experience will be noticed by Google, as well as something that can not be faked by AI.

#2 Ignoring Keywords

Shockingly enough, many people do not just ignore keywords, but use them inefficiently. In the video, Matt suggested not to compete on popular keywords. Creators should be realistic in knowing that they have very little chance at a big company using the same keywords. He advised doing a keyword analysis. Keyword analysis can be done by looking at your competitions keywords and ranking their most successful use of them. From there you can choose the ones they are not as successful in and optimize those keywords.

#3 Copying Competitor Content

You may think stealing your competitors content and rewriting slightly is clever and saves time. However, Google can tell when information has been regurgitated. Copying their work is not only unethical, but also just harming your own rating in the process. Instead, look at the competition to understand the structure Google desires, then write your own content with added personal information and examples. As mentioned before, Google likes the proof of expertise and experience.

Investigating your competitors to see where they come up short and optimizing for that is a good strategy that I would not have thought of otherwise.

These are some really helpful strategies! Keywords are super important to SEO and definitely get overlooked. I also liked what you said about writing from scratch and how it effects googles algorithms.
