For our semester project in SEO, I am working to improve a site for my boyfriend’s mom. She owns a soap company out of her home and creates various scented soap, shampoo, and conditioner bars. I was originally interested in it because the website itself is not optimized for web users. If anything, it functions better for cell phone searchers. When we first started class, I used one of the online tools to evaluate the SEO of her site, and it came back as a really high score. I was discouraged, thinking that my design goals for the site did not line up with SEO (since her score was already high). HOWEVER, Professor Sweet told me to stick with it, and now I have learned that things such as images, loading time, etc. DO effect SEO. Professor Sweet told me that the online rating tools do not always tell the full story. I am so happy that I listened to him because I have really been enjoying designing her site and learning how to make it even better on the back end! I’m looking forward to seeing my finished project and showing it to Mrs. Wilson!
So far, I have redesigned her Home page by adding a button with “our story” on it that will take the user to the About page. I also changed up some of the images and changed the color palette. I have done extensive keyword research at this point and I am looking forward to implement what I have learned in that. I have noticed within the existing site that different keywords are present, and I will definitely be using some of the same ones in my “site makeover” (yes that’s what I’m calling it-I am just a girl).

I absolutely love this! This just goes to show that every site can be improved and optimized further despite however good the appearance or rating of it seems. This is such a cute idea for a site! Thanks for sharing!
