As the digital and AI world grows, SEO changes. SEO will never go away, but it has to adjust to the new age. AI overviews and AI mode continue to grow and take over SERPs, and Google does not seem to be slowing it down. It has been shown as well that the overviews are not really accurate. Studies have shown that Google has been testing AI instead of the usual map packs that come up when a user searches up local businesses, etc. Those AI results haven’t been as accurate.
GEO. Generative Engine Optimization continues to grow, but old white hat SEO still is going strong. SEO traffic is around 34 times larger than GEO traffic, so sites gain more traffic from non-AI optimization. GEO is predicted to grow some more, but not without some up and downs. SEO will continue to grow, and will not decrease dramatically. Don’t create an “AI friendly” copy of your site.
Google is facing a lot of challenges and competition from OpenAI and other AI companies, but they are still at the top of the search game. But in order to be so, they need to keep balancing the AI tools that they use and making money for shareholders. Google has also been adding links to their AI overviews, which leads to more traffic to the source that provided the content.
Because of the increase in AI, measuring SEO results is getting harder to do. And on the AIO, reddit has become extremely popular, as more spammy lists and parasite SEO goes mainstream. Even with all of these things happening, SEO is a really useful tool to know and use. Things will constantly change, and it is good to stay up to date and not get led astray by false advice.
