Blog Post #1 – SEO Trends for 2025

As 2025 just gets started, there are already trends in SEO on the horizon and Webstarts has some opinions and predictions. Their article SEO In 2025 – What’s New And What’s A Myth? helps to lay out some of the possible trends on the horizon by showing us what is in and what is out this year. It predicts AI search results, visual and voice search, experience-focused, locational based results, authenticity and expertise, and longer content are all in. And over-use of keywords, backlinks, set rankings that do not change, paid ads, and meta keywords are all myths that are out.

A lot of this makes sense to me. However, Visual and voice surprises me a bit because I personally do not like visual or voice search. I find voice search inconvenient because I do not want to be speaking into my phone out loud in public – I think this is not only embarrassing, but I also don’t want everyone around me to necessarily hear what I’m searching. And I find visual search to be inconvenient because 1) a lot of the time, the results are nowhere near what I wanted and 2) it’s harder to navigate toward the visual search option in the search browser rather than just typing in the search bar. Another claim of the article I am surprised about is that longer content is in because I feel like we are a generation that favors quick fix and instant gratification, and our attention spans are so slim. So, I don’t feel like we’d care to read longer form content if what we are really searching for can be found out in a few short lines.

Overall, I’ll be interested to see which of their predictions holds true. I definitely feel skeptical over a couple of them, but I am obviously not an SEO expert and the trends I am and am not hopping on do not represent the rest of the population.

It’s interesting to see how many trends are already being seen in the new year! AI becoming more present in the new year makes a lot of sense. Over the last year or so I have noticed more advertisements and promotions for different AI technologies, so I am not surprised. It seems as though the SEO techniques that are predicted seem to have a lot to do with convenience, or I at least view them as ways to get answers more conveniently. I understand your viewpoint of visual and voice search! I personally do not use those methods of search, but I have quite a few friends who do and like the convenient aspect of it. I personally would also feel weird about people hearing what I am searching! I guess we will see if their predictions end up being true! Great thoughts!
